Sarah Heffernan ‘10 Promoted to Sergeant in Billerica

Westfield State alumna Sarah Heffernan, who graduated in 2010 with a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology, has recently been promoted to Sergeant. With this prestigious promotion, Heffernan has made history by becoming the third woman ever to achieve the esteemed rank of Sergeant in Billerica, breaking new ground for future generations and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.

Heffernan, who has been with the Billerica Police Department for 11 years, began her career in the patrol division before transitioning to a part-time role in the Adopt a School program. A program where she began building connections to local schools and students, helping to shape her future path as a school resource officer. Initially, Heffernan worked part-time at Valley Collaborative High School and later transitioned to working at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School. In her new role as Sergeant, Heffernan will transition from serving as a School Resource Officer to a patrol supervisor.

Congratulations on being promoted, Sgt. Heffernan, and thank you for your dedication and protection to civilians every day!
