Westfield State alum Matthew Landry '16 officially joins other siblings in a law enforcement career

Matthew Landry '16 holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Westfield State, a university he chose for its renowned program. While attending Westfield State, Matthew balanced academics with a part-time job and graduated magna cum laude. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, "Going to Westfield State and living on campus taught me how to be self-sufficient and how to balance my school, social, and work life efficiently."

On December 1st, Matthew graduated from the MPTC Holyoke Police Academy after completing 20 weeks of intensive training. This achievement marks a significant step in his journey to follow in the footsteps of his brothers, Officer Ben and Sergeant Christopher Landry '12. Both working in Provincetown, Sgt. Christopher Landry recently participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (alongside fellow Westfield alum and police chief Greg Hennick '07), raising funds for Special Olympics athletes.

Following his brothers into law enforcement and policing, Matthew credits his upbringing for shaping his desire to help others and his ability to connect with the community through his experiences. Moving to Holyoke in the middle of eighth grade from Springfield, he adjusted to a new school and quickly made friends, eventually calling Holyoke home.

At just 16, Matthew began his career at Stop & Shop, where his dedication and initiative led him to rise through the ranks, ultimately joining the Asset Protection team in 2016, a role he describes as “a natural steppingstone to becoming a police officer one day.” Alongside his professional responsibilities, Matthew is a committed community volunteer, regularly assisting at the Holyoke road race by distributing food and water generously provided by Stop & Shop to race participants.

We appreciate your dedication to service and public safety, Officer Landry. Thank you and your family for your commitment to the criminal justice system. Congratulations on your achievement!
