Westfield State Alum, Mayor Will Reichelt ’09, Leads West Springfield into the Future, Sharing his Thoughts

Westfield State alum and active member of the Westfield State Board of Trustees, Will Reichelt '09, has been discussing his plan for what he sees as West Springfield's future. Mayor Reichelt, who graduated in '09, has been an active member of Westfield State University's board of Trustees since 2021 and has been making waves as Mayor of West Springfield, in office since 2015 and re-elected in 2025. Recently, Mayor Reichelt also helped honor community members, along with Westfield State University and Westfield Mayor Mike McCabe, at the Keeper of the Dream, an annual celebration at Westfield State, demonstrating his dedication to supporting campus partners and community members!

Mayor Reichelt's plan for West Springfield's future is clear and goal-driven. With a few main focuses, like modernizing the permit process to expedite it for business owners, contractors, and builders alike, pulling a dated, slow process into the twenty-first century, with clear deadlines, transparency, and a faster turnaround!

There has also been a focus on infrastructure, something Mayor Reichelt has been working on for the past few years, including updating roadways, improving major intersections, and widening sidewalks, making travel safer for all! With this goal comes the modernizing of water and sewer systems, something that hasn't been done to this scale since the 60's and 70's, a well-needed update. As well as focusing on stormwater upgrades to better prepare for more frequent and intense storms. But in 2026, Mayor Reichelt will begin working with others on the 2050 master plan, a 25-year plan to update, upgrade, and maintain West Springfield for the better.

A very interesting point of view from Mayor Reichelt, indeed.
