Letter from the President

Greetings from Alumni President. Jim McGowan '92

Serving as your Alumni Association President for the past two years has been quite an honor. Throughout this time, I have met many alumni who have shared stories of their time as students and spoke of the appreciation of Westfield State for shaping their career, family and lifelong friendships.

As you reflect on your time as a student at Westfield State, what are the first things that come to mind? For many, it is the people; your friends, roommates, classmates and for some, your spouse.

Have you returned to campus recently? If not, I encourage you to experience many of the changes and improvements that have transformed Westfield State over the past few years. The Alumni Association provides several opportunities throughout the year to welcome you back to campus and I encourage you to visit and experience the Westfield State of today.

I have also had the opportunity to work closely with many of the current students on campus and I am amazed with the level of research being conducted and the conferences our students present at on a regular basis. These students represent Westfield State well and are well prepared for the workforce upon graduation. But, they need your help.

The Alumni Association has been working closely with the Board of Trustees to identify our alumni willing and interested in offering internships to Westfield State students, providing them with valuable hands-on experience. We are also working to expand the level of job placements for our recent graduates at alumni-owned and managed entities. If you can give back to Westfield State by providing one or more of these opportunities, please contact the Alumni Relations office.

I look forward to continuing to support our incoming Alumni Association President, Scott Gowen, as he continues to lead us in the years ahead and hope to see you soon at a future alumni event.
