Dr. Sonia Dinnall '88 G'08 appointed as Springfield Public Schools Superintendent

Dr. Sonia Dinnall, '88 G08, has officially been sworn in as the Superintendent of the Springfield public school system. Dr. Dinnall pursued her bachelor's degree in biology at Westfield State University. She credits her education from the Springfield Public School system, where she was also a student, as part of her collegiate and graduate success. Dr. Dinnall stated in an interview, "The education that I received from Springfield Public Schools was second to none, and that is the education we will continue to provide for each and every one of our students regardless of creed, zip code, color, or culture. Every student will receive the type of education that I received, one that would allow me to sit here as the Superintendent of Springfield Public Schools."

After completing her first master's degree, Dr. Dinnall returned to Westfield, where she earned her second master's degree, this time in psychology, and later obtained her doctorate at Lesley University. Before becoming Superintendent of Springfield, she was Principal of the High School of Commerce for three years and the Executive Director of College and Career Readiness for Hartford Public Schools for a decade. Her career started when she began teaching eighth grade at Forest Park Middle School.

Dr. Dinnall's appointment marks her as the first woman in Springfield Public Education history to be Superintendent. We are excited to see Dr. Sonia Dinnall excel in her new position! Congratulations, Dr. Dinnall!
