Ian Nelson ’00 Promoted to Sergeant at Reading Police Department

Ian Nelson ’00 was recently promoted to Sergeant at Reading Police Department in Massachusetts. He joined the department in 2005. 

Officer Nelson serves in many roles at the Reading Police Department. He is a field training officer and a member of the Reading Police Department training team. He is also a firearms instructor, less-than-lethal instructor, and active shooter response instructor. He also teaches at the Reading Police Department Citizens Police Academy and is a RAD instructor in the Reading Police Department women’s self-defense program. He is a member of the Reading Police Department Honor Guard and is the president of the Reading Police Patrol Officers Association. 

Chief David Clark described Officer Nelson as a highly trained officer who is dedicated to the Reading community. He also referred to him as an excellent role model for his fellow officers. 

When he is off-duty, Officer Nelson is a scoutmaster with Reading Scout Troop 702. 

He graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1995 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in political science from Westfield State in 2000.
