New Chief of Elders & Persons with Disabilities Unit, Mary Beth Ogulewicz M’18

Mary Beth Ogulewicz M’18 is the new chief of the Elders and Persons with Disabilities Unit at the Northampton district attorney’s office. Her responsibilities include facilitating multi-disciplinary teams working to protect people with disabilities and elders, providing training and education on issues related to the population, leading efforts on crime prevention and safety awareness, and leading criminal investigations and prosecution of cases involving the elderly and people with disabilities. She is also assigned to the juvenile justice unit and handles cases involving juveniles in Franklin County.

In her most recent position, Ogulewicz was the director of senior, social, and homeless services for the town of Amherst. She directed services for senior citizens, people with mental health issues, and those experiencing homelessness. Additionally, as an alternative to police response, she organized an ongoing initiative to establish a community responder program.

Prior to her career in Amherst, she worked in private law practice specializing in mental health and elder law. For 18 years, she served as assistant district attorney in Hampden County where she prosecuted felonies, including homicide and domestic violence cases.

Ogulewicz earned a law degree from Western New England University School of Law and was admitted into the Massachusetts Bar in 1989. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Westfield State University in 2018.
