Westfield State alumni Joseph Cartledge, '93, has officially been appointed the new police chief of the Northampton, MA Police Department. After earning his bachelor's degree from Westfield State, Cartledge began his career at the Northampton Police Department in 1995 as a patrol officer. He has dedicated his entire career to this department, eventually working through the ranks to serve as Captain of Administration.
Before he was appointed police chief, Cartledge held the position of interim police chief while the department searched for a permanent replacement. Following an extensive review process that included numerous applicants, Cartledge was unanimously selected by the search committee for the role.
In addition to his bachelor's degree, Cartledge holds a master's degree in Criminal Justice from Capella University. He has expressed his honor in being named police chief and is committed to fostering community partnerships and promoting departmental leadership with a focus on transparency.
