Grella '11 released her debut album “The Garden” in 2023

Alumna Sarah Grella '11 released her debut album “The Garden” in 2023. The road to this moment was not easy. After graduating Grella was feeling lost and unsure of her worthiness as a musician.  She then joined a local Folk/Americana band, toured the country, and fell in love. During this time, she found herself trying to fit in and be everything everyone around her wanted to be. In 2018 the band broke up after having recorded a few EPs and a studio album together. About the same time her relationship came to an end and Grella stated “This was without a doubt one of the most painful times of my life”. 

Grella’s debut album “The Garden” was born out of this extremely difficult period of her life. “I didn’t know it then, but the songs were like seeds; seeds being planted by tooling over their melodies and meaning”. In writing these songs, Grella worked through the traumas and grief she experienced during this period.  

“I am not one thing. I am not defined by the bad or the good things that have happened to me. My triumphs will not always yield abundance, and my failings will not always spell blight. I can be resolute, and still sometimes have to weed out the doubt. I am whole; and I am learning and growing. I am cultivating who I am.”
