The Northampton Public Schools Superintendent John Provost '93 was offered the superintendent role in the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District on Thursday evening.
The Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee voted 7-0 to hire Provost as superintendent with a start date of July 1.The district’s current superintendent, Albert Ganem Jr., is retiring at the end of the month.
Provost received praise from many of the committee members on his ability to learn from his mistakes. His extensive experience in the field of education as a teacher with expertise in special education and with strategic plans weighed heavily in his favor.
Provost inspired committee members with his leadership abilities and his experience bringing level three schools to level one. He was also praised for his ability to step back and allow teachers to take the lead in creating curriculum as an opportunity to teach leadership.
After the vote, Provost was called and offered the opportunity to enter contract negotiations. He accepted.
