Over $5,000 Raised for Scholarships at 29th Annual Dan Doyle Memorial Golf Tournament

The 29th Annual Dan Doyle Memorial Golf Tournament was held on September 12 to benefit the scholarship in his name.

Over the course of the past 29 years, the tournament committee, alumni, and friends have raised funds in Dan's honor to award the Dan Doyle Scholarship to over 50 students. This year the committee raised over $5,000 for the scholarship, which will be awarded to a junior or senior student.

The scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Dan, who died in an automobile accident on Sept. 21, 1982. Dan graduated from Westfield State College in the spring of 1981. He was a member of both the Cross Country and Track Teams at Westfield State, achieving Massachusetts State College All Conference Honors in the 1500m run in 1979.  More information about the Dan Doyle Scholarship here.

As the Annual Memorial Golf Tournament moves forward, the committee will use the event to honor Coach Jerry Gravel, who passed away last fall. Alumni were incredibly influenced by coach’s leadership while they were on campus and wanted to support a fund in his honor.  More information about Jerry Gravel here.

2021 golf tournament plans are already underway. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, playing in the event, or both, please contact John Whidden at john.whidden@hp.com or Westfield State Institutional Advancement at (413) 572-8647.
